Mormon in America: Rock Center special airs Thurs, Aug. 23

Thought you might be interested in watching this tomorrow night.  Post a message about what you saw and how you felt about it.

Rock Center with Brian Williams will take an in-depth look at Mormonism in America on a special edition of the show Thursday, Aug. 23 at 10pm/9c.  From Harry Smith’s tour of the church’s remarkable system for taking care of its own, to facts about its controversial history and practices, to a portrait of a modern Mormon family, Rock Center examines a faith that may soon have one of its own in the White House.

  1. Not a bad overall picture of Mormon's. I thought The idea that we are so secretive was emphasized with way too much frequency, everything from the garment to Welfare Square was put out as being so secret. The idea that the church is changing to become more mainstream and will eventually get with the program and allow women to hold the Priesthood and non-members to enter the temples shows a lack of understanding of what it means to be truly a Mormon. The Idea that Men and Women are not equal was disturbing and incorrect. Equal does not mean exactly the same in everything.

  2. Dad and I watched this with interest. It seems people are becoming more and curious about the church, which is good. We hope they will get the truth. We thought this broadcast from Rock Center was good, but it did not show enough of the positive. There is so much good going on in the church. Maybe they will get it, if they keep trying.

  3. I wish they would have focused more on our beliefs, such as the Articles of Faith rather than the practices. I think that you can understand a lot more about someone or something by understanding why they do things rather than simply learning what they do. They could have simply said that the LDS faith believes that there is a God and eternal laws that have consequences for following or breaking those laws and that God communicates those laws to man through a prophet. We believe that prophet was Joseph Smith and is Thomas Monson. That is why we do all the 'weird' things we do--pretty simple!
